2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport vs Range Rover Evoque

Land Rover and Range Rover Offer Drivers Capable Compact SUV Options

Typically when most drivers think of luxury brands, the term rugged is not a description that is typically associated with the segment. Land Rover and Range Rover, however, have other ideas. Both brands do a masterful job at fusing muddy off-road finesse with the chic comfort of premium features.

That said, there are a few notable differences between the two, and while you can't go wrong either way, it's worth knowing all the facts so that you can make the decision that's right for you. Land Rover Discovery Sport vs. Range Rover Evoque

Performance Output

The thing to keep in mind about both the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque is that while there are differences in overall power potential, both SUVs are more than capable and handling tough terrain situations. That said, you will get a higher overall performance output from the Range Rover Evoque.

The all-new Range Rover Evoque comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission that gets 246 horsepower and gets a fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Compare this to the Land Rover Discovery Sport which clocks in at a lower 237 horsepower with its 2.0-liter turbo-four and a similar fuel economy of 21 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Fuel economy is largely the same in both SUVs, and there are engine upgrade options for both. The Range Rover Evoque has a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-four that gets an improved 296 horsepower while the Land Rover Discovery Sport does the same, but still comes up a bit short at 286 horsepower.

Interior Space and Cargo Capacity

Both the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque are two-row SUVs that seat up to five people, but in terms of overall space, the Land Rover Discovery Sport comes out on top. Behind the back row, the Land Rover Discovery Sport has 34.6 cubic feet of space compared to the Range Rover Evoque's 21.5 cubic feet. The Range Rover Evoque's cargo capacity is an improvement over the previous year's, but it still falls short in this regard.

Folding down the back row more than doubles the Range Rover Evoque's total cargo capacity to 50.5 cubic feet, but even still the Land Rover Discovery Sport tops that number at 62.8 cubic feet.

On top of that, the Land Rover Discovery Sport narrowly edges the Range Rover Evoque on its interior space. Headroom in both the front and the rear fall in Land Rover's favor, though the Range Rover Evoque is still more than comfortable over long road trips.

Standard Features

As luxury SUVs, both the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque come well-equipped with standard features. However, the Range Rover Evoque comes with a few additional extras at a base level. You'll get a navigation system standard right out of the gate that is available as an add on with the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Additionally, the Range Rover Evoque's touchscreen is larger than the Land Rover Discovery Sport's, which is ten inches compared to eight. In the Land Rover Discovery Sport's favor is the fact that its sound system comes with more speakers; ten compared to the Range Rover Evoque's six.
